Who Is Blended Sense?
Blended Sense is a one-stop video production shop offering on-demand recording, video editing, and other post-production services. It collaborates with a network of hundreds of freelance videographers and editors to provide these services to small- and medium-sized businesses (SMEs) and larger enterprises.
CEO and Co-Founder Albert Baez says he’s “lived two lives” until now: The first as an NCAA-level baseball player whose playing career was cut short due to injury, and the second in the technology industry.
When his wife and business partner Abigail Rose Baez came to him with the idea to start Blended Sense, “it was a great opportunity to bring my 10 years of working in technology and build something new that had never been done” by connecting businesses to professional video teams.

The Challenge: Scalable, Reliable, and Fast File Transfer That’s Easy to Set Up and Use
Blended Sense’s calling card is “our network and ability to film anytime, anywhere in the U.S. and Canada on demand,” says Baez. The company was founded in 2020 and works with a network of more than 100 freelance videographers and editors across the country.
“There was no company helping small or medium businesses, all the way up to enterprise, get the high-quality video assets that they need. There’s no other company that can say: ‘Oh, you need filming across 10 different cities next week? We’ve got you.’”
But initially there was one missing ingredient: Fast, reliable, and easy-to-use file transfer able to reliably move humungous video files produced by cinematic cameras.
After being referred to MASV by a videographer in its network (stick tap to that videographer!), Blended Sense performed technical and workflow tests to determine if MASV was up to the job.
Spoiler alert: MASV passed with flying colors.
The need for fast, reliable, and scalable file transfer
“No one had really done this before, and we learned quickly that was partly due to the lack of ability to transfer large files in a fast and efficient way, in a user-friendly way, and do that across the internet,” explains Baez of the major challenge facing Blended Sense.
The company had tried file sharing solutions like Google Drive and WeTransfer, but each suffered from performance and reliability issues.
“We were quickly hitting constraints around scalability when ingesting footage via Google Drive from our videographers,” he says, adding that the company needed a fast, reliable, and seamless solution so as not to alienate its freelance videographers.
“Our freelancers were like: ‘It takes me longer to upload the footage than it did to film it.”
The need to easily share heavy cinematic video files
All Blended Sense videographers are vetted professionals who abide by a set of minimum equipment standards, including cinematic cameras that record in 4K.
Videographers typically send an average of 50GB, all the way to a full terabyte of 4K LOG footage, per transfer—although that can jump by 10X if they’re covering a live event.
The upshot is that videographers need to move extremely heavy files for every job, preferably without additional compression on an easy-to-learn platform that doesn’t require hours of training.
On the receiving side, Blended Sense needed a platform that was simple to integrate into its SaaS solution and workflows.
The need for custom development and seamless storage integrations
The Blended Sense SaaS platform allows videographers to log in, upload files, and view video previews.
- Those uploads also need to go to the company’s Amazon S3 bucket and get backed up in an enterprise Google Drive.
- But providing a seamless and performant experience for videographers to reliably upload files in the Blended Sense platform was originally a challenge.
Blended Sense had to upload footage to S3 manually, which robbed staff of valuable time.
Blended Sense needed a stable, strong platform upon which to perform custom development to enable the above workflow in their SaaS platform.
At the same time, they needed a solution that could easily integrate with S3 and enable automated uploads, to remove manual work.
The need for flexible file upload forms and upload rules
Scaling video workflows requires strong file organization processes, preferably through a set of file upload rules y metadata collection forms that can be enforced upon file upload.
“We like setting up a few general fields that dictate how we want things to be uploaded and ingested,” Baez explains, “but we also want to be able to manipulate those fields according to what exactly was filmed. If it’s a brand story, for example, we need the interview, the B-roll, and the drone footage.”

Videographers can now send files once and go on with the rest of their day, without needing to retry or babysit transfers until completion.
“Their time is money, right? I mean, they’re freelancers, they’re running their own business, they’re trying to get things done as soon as possible.”
Blended Sense combines a proprietary user interface (UI) with an embedded portal MASV file uploader, allowing videographers to securely submit content to their content repository.

Integrations, custom development, and ‘elite’ customer service

Baez says MASV was super easy to integrate into their solution, including embedding MASV Portals and integrating them with their Amazon S3 bucket.
“MASV helps get all that footage in effectively and efficiently. Not only does it get it into the repository for our editors, but it also puts it into AWS for the customer.”
Blended Sense also worked with MASV to implement custom features, such as Blended Sense’s video previews. They continue to develop unique workflow tools on the MASV platform using the API de MASV.

- Custom file upload forms can be attached to any Portal; Portal owners can add text fields, dates, and other inputs to ensure the right metadata gets collected, and change those fields as required.
- Portal owners can set custom file delivery specifications around file types, maximum package sizes, and naming conventions. Videographers can’t upload files until these specs are met.
